Exploring how AI and mindfulness come together through my six-week internship at YogiFi.
Exploring how AI and mindfulness come together through my six-week internship at YogiFi.
During Summer 2024, I completed a 6-week internship with YogiFi, an innovative company developing smart yoga mats that combine computer vision, AI, and embedded sensors to guide users toward better posture and mindful practice.
As someone passionate about the intersection of health, technology, and user experience, this internship gave me a front-row seat to see how technology can enhance wellness and accessibility.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supported YogiFi’s team at wellness and tech events by interacting with customers, explaining the smart mat’s features, and collecting real-time feedback to improve user experience.
Helped set up demonstrations, assisted in yoga sessions using the smart mat, and learned how user behavior data informs product updates.
Assisted in the assembly process and calibration of mats — gaining hands-on exposure to sensor alignment, computer-vision tracking, and product testing workflows.
Highlights & Accomplishments
Event Marketing & Customer Engagement: Represented YogiFi at public wellness events and tech expos (including CES) by conducting live product demos and engaging with attendees.
Product Assembly & Quality Control: Gained hands-on experience in smart mat assembly, sensor calibration, and quality checks at the manufacturing unit.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Participated in daily stand-ups with the app development team, contributing feedback on user experience and feature design.
Startup Operations Experience: Learned the end-to-end product lifecycle, from marketing to manufacturing and app integration.
Innovation Discussions: Shared product enhancement ideas integrating hardware, software, and wellness, reflecting a strong grasp of user-centered design.

Journey Blog
My first week at YogiFi was all about curiosity and orientation. I learned how the company blends traditional yoga with modern AI and sensors, turning a simple yoga mat into a smart companion that tracks posture and performance. Watching the product demos made me realize how much technology can amplify mindfulness.
I joined the marketing and customer experience team at wellness events. Talking to users and explaining the product taught me how to connect technical innovation with human needs. Seeing people’s excitement when the mat responded to their poses reminded me that innovation isn’t just about code — it’s about emotion.
This week, I shifted gears to the manufacturing unit. I helped with smart mat assembly, learning about sensor calibration and quality control. It was fascinating to see how precision and teamwork shaped every finished product. I started appreciating how each line of code or design choice impacts the physical user experience.
By week 4, I was helping gather user feedback from events and reporting it to the product and app teams. I joined daily stand-up meetings, contributing observations that later influenced app updates. I learned that in startups, everyone — even an intern — can make a real difference.
This week was about integration — understanding how hardware, software, and storytelling work together. I helped organize new demos, created feedback summaries, and observed how YogiFi’s engineers analyzed data to improve user posture tracking. It was the perfect example of how design and data go hand in hand.
In my final week, I reflected on how much I’d learned about wellness tech, teamwork, and empathy-driven design. YogiFi taught me that true innovation comes from understanding people first, then building solutions that serve them.
